Loving Life

I pretty much live by the motto, "What we think about, we bring about," so even when life throws those grape juice splattered on a white shirt or red Jello smeared on a clean carpet moments, I try to think about the things I'm grateful for. If I get a run in my stocking while I'm out, I'm grateful that my legs are shaved and look good enough to go without them. If we get a flat tire, I'm thankful for a spare. If one of our rambunctious boys accidentally knocks a hole in the wall while horse-playing, after taking a deep breath and counting to a thousand, I'm thankful for the plaster and paint we keep on hand.

I began a gratitude journal at the beginning of the year and I told myself that I would write something in it each day. That was the plan. Well, despite missing a few days here and there, I still keep moments of gratitude for things in my mind. For instance, sometimes I'm grateful for the person in front of me who is driving slower than molasses, because it teaches me patience. (Of course, when I'm in a serious hurry, it's a different story.)Sometimes I'm thankful for the long line I stand in at the store, because not only do you get to read about the Roswell woman who gave birth to the twenty-five pound, two-headed baby, you get the opportunity to talk with people you've probably never seen before and may never see again. Each moment of life is an opportunity and we get to choose what we do with them.
So my challenge for you is this: Look for those gratitude moments. They're there, believe me, even when you don't think they are, and the more you look for them, the more you will recognize them.

Thought For The Week

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
Marianne Williamson

Take that quote to heart and remember just how amazing you are!

Letting It Happen

Have you ever had one of those days when the more you try to think positive about some things, the harder that little chimpanzee jumps on your shoulders until pretty soon, it turns into a huge gorilla? Raise your hand if you have. Well, guess what? Yours truly, the queen of positive thinking has those days too. As a matter of fact, I had one of those days this past week.

Walking through the book section of Walmart, I noticed a few new titles on large displays that were not there the week before. Or, maybe they just didn't jump out at me the week before like they did on this particular day. Anyway, while a large part of me was jumping up and down with happiness for these great and talented people, a small part of me began to question the worth of my own writing. Not that I haven't had those days before, but for some reason this one in particular was pretty rough.

I went home, and later on that day, pulled up my newest project on my laptop and typed in some thoughts that came to me on the way home. Then I typed in some more that night, and again the next morning. Suddenly I was oozing with thoughts and my mind was in the "author zone," as my kids call it. And do you know what happened? I began to feel grateful! I was grateful for the two ton gorilla that had attacked without mercy, because had it not been for that giant ball of fur I now consider my friend, I would never feel the desire to best myself when it comes to my writing, or anything else for that matter.
I am a great writer! I KNOW I AM! And one day that huge display with my name in lights will happen for me, too!

I found myself thinking back on something my son said a few weeks ago. Nikolas, my nine year old, came up to me while I was in the kitchen and asked, "Mom, why don't you have a job?"
I answered, "Well, this is my job, being home and taking care of you guys."
He was quiet for a second, then he said, "I thought writing books was your job."
I replied, "That's my job, too, but I can do that at home as well so I don't have to be away from you guys."
Then he ended the conversation with a reply that said it all, giving me one of those treasured mother/writer moments and letting me know that I really am doing some good.
His words were, "Well, I think you have the greatest job in the world."

Life is grand, ain't it?

New Kid On The Block

Well, world, I wanted to be a blogger too, so now, thanks to my genius husband's help, I have officially joined the world of blogdom! This is completely new to me, so I will beg your patience beforehand as I try to come up with a few gems to peak your interest and keep ya coming back to visit.

About My Writing

I have mainly written romance novels, because as people who are close to me know, I am a complete romantic, but I've recently began to dabble in fantasy. I know, I know, that's quite a switch, but when you've got kids sitting around your house reading fantasy and except for one, they don't even venture to read or even open their mom's books, it's time to change things up a bit. That's not really the reason, though. Truthfully, I had a story inside my head and heart that was just dying to get out, so I let it out.

The Journey

The Journey
is my new YA fantasy novel that will be out in July of this year. It was pretty fun to write and it was definitely a labor of love. It is a story about choices and how they can affect us and those around us. The story shares an absolute truth-that every choice made affects something or someone, and has a consequence. I hope that readers young and old will love this book and its sequel as much as I do.

Thought For The Week

I am a pretty positive thinker, therefore my weekly thoughts are going to always be . . . well, positive.
Like everyone, I have my down moments, but I try not to stay that way for long. Oh, believe me, it's like going through an emotional wrestling session during those moments, but those matches can be conquered. Each time that happens for me, I call those my "Queen of the World" moments, and I mark another tally on my "wins" chart and mentally shout, "Yeah!" Can't do that out loud, though. My kids think I'm spastic enough.
Here's an affirmation for ya to chew on and ingest. It is one of my absolute favorites:

"Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions."

Mr Einstein said that, and he was absolutely right. If you can dream it, you can achieve it.
Have a great week!
